USA Cycling BMX Power Rankings Info & Points Table

USA Cycling has created a rankings system to identify the best U.S. BMX performers in international and domestic BMX racing. The USA Cycling BMX Power Rankings will include points for elite men, elite women, junior men and junior women from the BMX World Championships, Supercross World Cups Continental Championships and the USA Cycling Elite BMX National Championships.

In the past, USA Cycling has relied entirely on the published UCI BMX world ranking system. However, after working with the UCI ranking system we now feel the UCI rankings alone do not fully reflect current podium capability. With the Olympic-style format of BMX racing, known as the UCI Supercross World Cup and the BMX World Championships, we believe it is crucial that our Olympic hopefuls focus on this style of international BMX racing as this replicates the Olympic racing format.

In the 2015 UCI season, USA Cycling has modified its USA Cycling BMX Power Rankings. USA Cycling will continue to award the highest single day points to the BMX World Championship (CM). It will continue to award points and urge all its athletes to participate in the UCI Supercross World Cup series (CDM). In addition, the USA Cycling BMX Power Rankings will be based on a rolling 12-month point calendar, utilizing a weighted point system (point calendars, point tables and weighted point value examples are in Figure 1, 2    & 3). These results and rankings will be posted on the USA Cycling website and will be updated with new points as soon as the results become official from a given UCI calendar event. The standings will show all events on the Ranking Calendar and all points scored to assist everyone in verifying accuracy. This ranking system may be utilized for assisting the selection process for international funded teams, camps and support.

Figure 3. This example, which is prior to the 2015 Manchester SX World Cup event, presents a rolling 12-month time period. The event titles in grey are the total USAC BMX Power ranking points available at an event. The event titles in black show the weighted USAC BMX Power rankings value at the time of selection. The point’s value row represents the value of an event; the more recent the event, the higher the event value. USA Cycling Power ranking will be posted on the USA Cycling website and will be updated with new points as soon as the results become official from a given UCI calendar event.
