Manages initiatives in support of developing and implementing USA Cycling’s overall communications and media relations strategy.
- Creates, writes and distribute press releases to cycling, Olympic beat and mainstream sports media.
- Develops original content, researches and writes feature stories and athlete profiles. Creates and updates athlete biographies.
- Maintains USA Cycling media distribution lists.
- Provides media needs on-site at major national cycling events.
- Directs media outreach surrounding USA Cycling national championship, national calendar and development program events, working closely with local promoters and USAC staff.
- Independent contractor staff management at national championship events, including identifying and hiring appropriately skilled workers.
- Edits and oversees the production of USA Cycling media guide and press kits. Maintains USA Cycling online photo gallery and databases.
- Fulfills media requests for interviews, photos, statistics and additional USA Cycling-related information.
- Participates in promoting and distributing USA Cycling membership-related news, special offers and benefits.
- Arranges local media placement for hometown athletes and maintain database of related media outlets.
- Responsible for the placement of USA Cycling-related features in mainstream media outlets, lifestyle and sports publications and maintains archives of press clippings, photos and videos; tracks article placement.
- Contributes to and updates news articles on USA Cycling website. Provides strategic enhancements to social media outlets.
- Other duties as assigned.
Extensive travel, including weekends, required. This position will be based at the USA Cycling corporate office located in Colorado Springs, Colo. Incumbents are held accountable for all duties of this job. This position reports to the communications director.

- Demonstrated knowledge of cycling; ability to understand the USA Cycling organization
Bachelor’s degree in public relations, journalism, communication, marketing or a related field required
Three to five (3-5) years experience in sports journalism or equivalent required; prior public relations experience a plus
Word processing equipment, personal computer, scanners, and digital equipment
Microsoft Office Word, Excel and PowerPoint, DreamWeaver, PhotoShop, ORCA

Works under broad, minimal supervision. Carries out management responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions
Generally, works in the office; therefore, the noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
