USA Cycling Beginning Racer Program

More clinics in January and February 2015 to follow.
Please register BELOW.

After the success of criterium racing clinics in January, March, and August of 2014, Gary Tingley has moved the bar by producing and directing a Beginning Racing Program (BRP) under the guidance of USA Cycling (USAC) during the fall 2014 and winter 2015.

Registration is $30. Clinic limited to fifty (50) Category 5 cyclists (over the age of 16). The first two clinics are in San Diego at the Mira Mesa Huennekens course. The final three (3) clinics will be in Orange County at a location to be determined.

What Is USAC BRP?

USAC BRP is open to Category 5 licensed racers over the age of 16, and is designed to develop a rider’s bike racing skills, allowing for safer and more enjoyable racing experiences. Riders who complete both the clinic and race portion will earn upgrade points, or have the events count as mass finishes. For a Category 5 racers, one (1) clinic completion counts as two (2) mass start finishes. This program was developed and modeled after the Northern California Early Bird Racing Series, directed by Larry Nolan, Laurel Green, Matt McNamara, John Cheetham, and Dan Smith.

Category 5 cyclists may upgrade to Category 4 by obtaining ten (10) points (race days). These points can be achieved by finishing 10 mass start races, or by completing five (5) USAC approved BRP clinics, or a combination of both. Mass start races count as one (1) point for each completed race and USAC approved BRP clinics count as two (2) points for each clinic.
