Where: 27 mile IMBA Epic Goodwater loop of Lake Georgetown leaving from Cedar Breaks Park located at 2100 Cedar Breaks Rd, Georgetown TX 78633. Park between the dam and the ranger station outside the park gates.
When: Wheels down at dawn (7:30am), October 7 th 2017
Fee: $10 online registration with USAC cycling.
Description: The folks at ATX100K are up to their usual tricks again with another soul crushing ultra-marathon trail ride. The IMBA Epic Goodwater, apart from looking somewhat like a dragon on the map, is a bike and body destroying loop of relentless rock-gardens amid technical climbs and descents. One lap alone is punishing. We are challenging you to ride three. It’s the ATX100K way.
Riders must wear a helmet when riding a bike.
All participants whether spectator, volunteer, or rider will abide by the rules and regulations of USAC and also the USACE Lake Georgetown parkland.
Riders may ride one (The Dragon’s Egg), two (The Baby Dragon), or three laps (The Dragon Slayer).
Riders going past one lap must start their second lap by 4:30:00 total elapsed time and their third lap by 9:00:00 total elapsed time to be allowed to continue.
Riders must finish their third and final lap before 13:30:00 total elapsed time to receive credit for the triple.
Riders starting their third lap must be equipped with trail lights capable of 3 hours of light
Riders will yield to other trail users. The trail will be open to the public.
Riders will ride the first lap counter clockwise. The second and third laps will be ridden clockwise.
The trail will not be marked. Riders will be expected to navigate on their own. Pre-riding is encouraged.
The ride will be largely unsupported apart from a couple of stations set up around the course by local bike shops.
Riders are on their own for crashes, injuries, bail-outs, mechanical failures, etc. so plan accordingly
The Good Stuff:
There will be a swag raffle in the days to follow via Facebook Livestream. Riders earn tickets by completing laps in the allotted times. The quality of prizes increases with each lap so there are basic prizes for lap one and high-end prizes for lap three (such as Maxxis EXO TR tires).
Finishers of one lap get to enjoy watching the pain of the riders who press on for two or three resting secure in the idea that wisdom is often the better part of glory.
Finishers of two laps get a signature ATX100K trophy: a wonderful and excellent rock from the trail side and scribed with the event info to sit on their mantle.
Finishers of three laps also get an excellent in every way rock, but are named and titled as “Dragon Slayer” and may update their social media and STRAVA accordingly.
Anyone who finishes the three laps on a single-speed is a lunatic but their names will live forever in the annals of mountain-bike legend.
