Mountain Bike and BMX World Cup competition continues this weekend


Both the UCI BMX Supercross World Cup and the RockyRoads UCI Mountain Bike World Cup presented by Shimano continue with their second stops this weekend. More than 50 Americans have travelled to Randaberg, Norway and Houffalize, Belgium to contest these two important, potential Olympic qualification events, April 13 - 15.

Connor Fields (Henderson, Nev./Chase BMX), winner of the opening round of the BMX Supercross World Cup in Chula Vista, California, and Chula Vista World Cup bronze medalist Amanda Geving (Largo, Fla./MCS Bicycles), will lead the 10-person USA Cycling funded team into Randaberg. In all 23 Americans will compete for vital Olympic qualifying points against over 170 riders from 26 nations. The Time Trials and qualifications will be held on Friday, while the Supercross main event will culminate on Saturday in the Randaberg arena.

Nearly 30 total Americans are set to line up for the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup's second cross-country round in Houffalize, including round one's top finishers Sam Schultz (Missoula, Mont. /Subaru-Trek), Lea Davison (Jericho, Vt. /Specialized Racing) and Heather Irmiger (Boulder, Colo./Subaru-Trek). Fresh off his Pan American Continental Championship title, USA Cycling National Champion Todd Wells (Durango, Colo./Specialized) is also on the start list for the elite men's event after missing out on the World Cup's opening round.

The elite men's and women's cross-country races will wrap-up a weekend of junior, U23 and 4X racing on Sunday in front of tens of thousands of spectators near the small south east Belgium town in the Ardennes forest.
