21 titles awarded on sixth day of combined track national championships

TREXLERTOWN, PENN. JULY 12, 2018 — Day six of the 2018 Juniors and Masters Track National Championships saw 21 national titles awarded. The Performance Cycle Coaching group claimed 5 of those titles on their hunt for the Best All-Around Team title.

Individual Pursuit

Lani Rowe (Los Angeles, Calif./Performance Cycle Coaching) took the first title of the day in the women’s 40-44 2 km individual pursuit in a time of 2:40.955. Steven Worley (Boulder, Colo./BoulderCentre for Orthopedics) won the men’s 65-69 race in a time of 2:37.898. In the men’s 35-39 IP, Chris Baker (Seattle/Corner 4 Racing) came in first with a time of 3:37.624

Time Trial

In the men’s 50-54 500m time trial, Brian Abers (Aloha, Ore./BRIHOP Cycling) took the division with a time of 34.959 seconds. Claire Olsen (Colorado Springs, Colo.) took her second title of this championships winning the women’s 55-59 event. Elizabeth Heller (St. Louis/Maplewood Bicycle St. Louis) added her 3rd title of the championship with a win in the women’s 60-64 time trial. In the women’s 65-69, Lan Tran (San Diego/San Diego Bicycle Club) took her title in a time of 43.097. Local rider Jo Johnson (Wilmington, Del./Riptide - Cawes Cycling) won the 70-74 women’s 500m time trial in a time of 49.184 seconds. Barbara Giquel (Salinas, Calif./JAKROO) seized the women’s 75-79 time trial with a time of 46.243.

Points Race

Yesterday’s women’s 50-54 scratch race winner, Kimberly Petit (Tulsa, Okla.) captured the win in the points race in the same age group. Larry Nolan (Freemont, Calif./CAL-NAT'S Racing) won the men’s 60-64 men’s points race. Like Petit, Chris Carlson (McKinney, Texas/Matrix Cycling Club), winner of the men’s 55-59 scratch race, also took the title in the points race in the same age group.

Scratch Race

Baker’s teammate, James Shamida (Seattle/Corner 4 Racing), claimed the top step in the men’s 40-44 scratch race. Jennifer Wagner (Houston/Shama Cycles) earned the stars-and-stripes in the women’s 35-39 scratch race. Sarah Munoz (Redondo Beach, Calif./South Bay Wheelman) took home gold in the women’s 40-44 scratch race.

Sprints

Carl Grove (Bristol, Ind./Pista Elite), the oldest participant in the event, took home the men’s 90-94 sprint title. Thomas O’Rourke (Westbloomfield, Mich.) speed to the top step of the men’s 80-84 race. Jim Kloss (Huntington Beach, Calif./South Bay Wheelman) repeated his win from last year’s national championships by claiming the gold in the men’s 75-79 sprints. Mark Rodamaker (Los Altos, Calif./Performance Cycle Coaching) sprinted to gold in the men’s 70-74 sprint. In the men’s 45-49 race, Lee Povey (Long Beach, Calif./Performance Cycle Coaching) took home the stars-and -stripes. Tuesday’s women’s 45-49 500m time trial champion, Kira Maximovich (San Jose, Calif./Performance Cycle Coaching) duplicated her gold medal for the women’s 45-49 sprints.
