Master the art, not just the craft
The Bill Woodul Race Mechanics Clinic is the required clinic for mechanics to receive a Category 3 USAC Race Mechanic Licence. The clinics are led by world-class race mechanics with national and international experience. Topics cover the breadth of mechanics' responsibilities supporting bicycle racing.
The 2018 edition will take place January 24-28, 2018 at the US Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The fee is $775, and includes housing, meals, ground transportation to and from Colorado Springs airport, course materials, and a two-year USA Cycling Mechanic’s License.
Applicants must email their resume to Gregory Cross. Registration closes on January 14, 2018. Please call 719-287-5887 or email Gregory Cross if you have questions.
Anyone with at least two years of bicycle mechanic experience can attend the clinic. The clinic will not teach you how to work on bicycles, but will show you how to apply your skills to race situations.
You need a USA Cycling Mechanics license to work at Olympic Trials, National Championships, Olympics, World Championships and with the National Team at races and camps.
Additionally, many of the corporate neutral support companies require their employees and volunteers to have a USA Cycling Mechanics license.
Licensed mechanics are covered under the USA Cycling insurance policy during their participation at sanctioned events.
Having a licensed mechanic on staff at your shop can boost the confidence of your clientele and give you an advantage over other shops.
Having a license and using it with your local team or at local races brings a higher level of staff to the sport.
Licensed mechanics can purchase supplemental liability insurance at a reduced rate.
