Six riders earned their second national championships of the week, as the men’s 70+, 90+, 110+ and mixed 110+ tandem, women’s 35-44 and men’s 35-49 divisions competed at Snowbasin Resort outside of Ogden.
Scott Raymond (Cypress, Calif./BBI-SIC Cycling) followed up his men’s open tandem time trial win with the men’s 70+ tandem road race win with Bradley Jones (Brea, Calif./BBI-SIC Cycling), while Brendan Sullivan (Atlanta, Ga./Lupus Racing Team) earned his second win of the week with Stephen Jamison (New York, N.Y./Lupus Racing Team) in the men’s 90+ tandem road race.
Following individual time trial wins in their respective divisions, Kathleen Giles (McLean, Va./U.S. Military Endurance Sports) took the women’s 35-39 road race win, Mindy Caruso (Albuquerque, N.M./Nero Veloce p/b Michael Thomas Coffee) won the women’s 40-44 contest, Jamey Yanik (Boise, Idaho/Bob’s Bicycles Cycling Club) claimed the men’s 35-39 road race field and Christopher Phipps (San Francisco, Calif./ThirstyBear p/b Akamai) won the men’s 45-49 division.
“It’s difficult to win a second championship,” Giles said. “You’ve got to work on recovery right away, especially after that Antelope Island (Time Trial) course; it's very hard and it’s hot. If you’re from sea level it’s even more challenging.”
The 2015 USA Cycling Masters Road National Championships concludes with all criterium divisions on Saturday beginning at 7 a.m. MDT in downtown Ogden
