Meet the Athlete

Gage Hecht started racing in 2007 at the age of 9. Gage found success very quickly dominating the local Colorado Cyclocross and Road Series in the junior ranks. Gage tackled Cyclocross Nationals in 2008 for the first time and achieved a second place finish. In 2009 Gage trekked to Bend Oregon and brought home the 10-12 year old National Road Title. Gage returned to Bend Oregon that December and captured the 2009 10-12 year old Cyclocross National Championship. In 2010 Gage secured the 10-12 National TT Championship and a 4th place in both the Road and Criterium National Championships and his first 13/14 year old Cyclocross Championship. The 2011 Cyclocross Series saw Gage’s development excel once again capturing impressive results in the Senior Men’s CAT 3 Division. Gage laid down one of his most impressive weekends taking 8th place at the Fort Colins USGP in the Senior Men’s CAT 2/3 Division. In 2012 Gage successfully defended his 13/14 year old Cyclocross National Championship in dominating fashion.

Can you briefly describe your path and the meaningful moments that have inspired you?

I pretty much grew up on a bicycle. I always enjoyed being competitive and racing. I think my involvement in the junior development program in Colorado back when I was 9 and 10 years old really created an opportunity to get into the sport and find racing.

What is one of the most pivotal experiences you've had that helped get you to where you are today?

I think the biggest experience I’ve had that helped me decide to make this a career was the first year racing nationals in Bend. Just seeing all the people rallying around the sport and being out in the rugged conditions really got me excited to be a CX athlete.

How did youth sports impact you as a young person and help you grow to the person you are today?

It definitely helped with confidence as well as building a lot of character, but more importantly, I built a lot of good relationships with great people through cycling.
