Chloe Dygert-Owen Shatters Individual Pursuit World Record Twice in One Day
March 3, 2018, Apeldoorn, Netherlands- 21 year old Chloe Dygert-Owen (Sho-Air TWENTY20; Port Orchard, Wash.) ended the day today at the UCI Track World Championships as a World Record Holder, shattering former teammate Sarah Hammer’s Individual Pursuit record not once, but twice lowering the record by over 2 seconds to 3.20.060.
“I expect this of myself,” said Dygert-Owen of her performance, “I have the greatest coaches and support team and country behind me. I work as hard as I can to get the results that I get. I come to win and I couldn't do it without those that support me, my sponsors, USA Cycling, the Foundation, the US Olympic Committee, my coaches, family and friends. It's an honor to represent them.”
As Dygert-Owen stood on the podium to claim her seventh rainbow jersey, to her left was teammate and fellow Team Pursuit World Champion, Kelly Catlin (Rally Cycling; Arden Hills, Minn.), who took the bronze medal for the second year in a row.
“Winning another medal is special because I didn't think I'd be winning a medal at all today, I've been really sick.” said Catlin after the race, "But the Individual Pursuit is good mental training because you really have to follow the process. It's really satisfying to get it right.”
Scott Schnitzspahn, Vice President of Elite Athletics for USA Cycling said, “Medals are really hard to win. I'm so proud of how Kelly pushed through these last couple days to win the bronze and Chloe, wow, she's a special talent. Our American women are super strong and their coaches deserve so much credit as well.”
The UCI Track World Championships will conclude tomorrow.
