Christopher Blevins takes U23 Silver at Mountain Bike World Championships
Lenzerheide, Switzerland- Christopher Blevins (Durango, Colo.; Specialized Factory Racing Team) rode to a second place finish at the 2018 UCI Mountain Bike World Championships in Lenzerheide, Switzerland.
“It’s definitely a surreal feeling and honestly I mostly feel incredibly lucky to have everyone here cheering and everyone back home cheering. We’ve got amazing support here and I got chills hearing everyone cheering for the U.S., from the U.S. and also from Europe. It’s exciting, I’m beyond lucky and looking forward to more of this hopefully,” said Blevins of his performance.
After breaking away from the pack early into the race, Blevins and South African Rider Alan Hatherly battled for the remaining five laps of the four kilometer circuit. Half-way through the final lap, Hatherly pulled away finishing in a time of 1:21:22 with Blevins 27 seconds behind him.
“Chris has had an incredible season across multiple disciplines,” said Derek Bouchard-Hall, President and CEO of USA Cycling, “It’s now great to see him on the podium at a World Championships, which is a huge achievement.”
Blevins, an all-around cyclist, is the reigning Elite Short Track Cross Country National Champion as well as the U23 Cyclocross National Champion. Blevins also races on the road and won Stage 2 of the San Dimas Stage Race as well as Stage 2 of the Tour of the Gila this season.
