Illinois Cycling Association holds second annual Promoters Summit

David LaPorte of the Nature Valley Bicycle Festival provides insight to the attendees of the ICA Promoter’s Summit.
“Some of our promoters drove several hours to be present at this summit.” mentioned Steve Hansen, president of the ICA. “Being able to bring the promoters together to exchange ideas and further collaboration is one way the ICA helps to improve the sport.”
Ed Amsutuz, president of xXx Racing-AthletiCo and Division 1 Club of the year for 2010 said, “The ICA should be congratulated for the outstanding job the organization has done to promote road cycling in Illinois.”
The special guest speaker for this event was David LaPorte, Executive Director of the Nature Valley Bicycle Festival and one of the most respected cycling promoters in the nation. Promoters in Illinois receive valuable advice from Mr. LaPorte on how to improve their events by focusing on building a fan base and recruiting volunteers. "This summit provided valuable information for beginning promoters and the more experienced promoters alike," said Jon Knouse, Executive Director of the Glencoe Grand Prix, and host to the National Criterium Championship in 2010, an NRC event in 2011, and now part of the new National Criterium Calendar for 2012. "Having the ICA provide the opportunity to collaborate to find solutions to our common challenges is why there is a great deal of respect for what the ICA does."
