Twelve more national titles awarded at Track Nationals on Thursday


Carson, Calif. (August 3, 2017) –The 2017 Junior and Elite Track National Championships continued at the VELO Sports Center on Thursday with twelve more national titles awarded in the junior 17-18 and elite categories.
Ashton Lambie clocked a 4:33.472 in the elite men’s four-kilometer individual pursuit to win gold ahead of Charles Cassin (303 Project) while Gavin Hoover (iCademy) was third.
John Croom (Rock Hill, SC/Levin Law Group) then climbed to the podium’s top step with a win in the one-kilometer time trial ahead of silver and bronze medalists Jamie Alvord (Allentown, Pa./Sprinter’s Edge) and Jack Lindquist (Portland, Ore./Olympia Cycling Team).
In the final elite event of the evening, Zachary Carlson (Texas Roadhouse) completed the 60 laps of the men’s scratch race with a national title ahead of Zachary Kovalcik and Roger Ainslie.
In the elite women’s individual pursuit final, Christina Birch (Keirin Cut Jeans) grabbed the Stars-and-Stripes jersey with a win ahead of Molly Van Houweling (JL Velo Cycling Team). Catherine Moore (Bicycles Plus Racing) won the race for third.
Mandy Marquardt (Allentown, Pa./Team Novo Nordisk) then posted the smoking fast time of 35.190 over the women’s 500-meter time trial to win gold ahead of silver and bronze medalists McKenzie Browne (Coopersburg, Pa./Sprinter’s Edge) and Sarah Fader (Boulder, Colo.).
When the elite scratch races rolled around toward the end of the evening, strongwoman Jennifer Valente (Sho-Air TWENTY20) was the one to come across for the win after 40 laps while Tela Crane and Colleen Gulick (Pickle Juice Pro) were second and third.
Tour de l’Abitibi overall winner Riley Sheehan (LUX/Stradling) completed the junior men’s 17-18 individual pursuit with a time of 3:28.38 over the three kilometers to win the national title ahead of Colby Lange (LUX/Stradling) and Kendrick Boots (Groove Subaru Excel).
Later during the evening session, Sandor Delgado (Hialeah, Fla./D Professional) continued to be a dominant force in the age group with a win in the one-kilometer time trial ahead of Justin Butsavage (Macungie, Pa./T-Town Elite) and Alex Bolotin (Chicago, Ill./Polish & Slavic FCU).
In the junior men’s 15-18 Madison, the Specialized duo of Jules Gilliam (Manhattan Beach, Calif./NCCF/Team Specialized) and Zachary Gottesman (Greenbrae, Calif./NCCF/Team Specialized) won ahead of the silver medal team of BMW Wheel comprised of Weston Giem (Valencia, Calif./BMW Major Motion Development) and Jonathon Gorski (Long Beach, Calif./South Bay Wheelmen). Third place went to RideBiker Alliance’s Bradley Hartwyk (Seal Beach, Calif./Team Velosport Junior) and Adrian Muniz (Baldwin Park, Calif./Team Velosport Junior).
Alijah Beatty (Northstar Development) continued to put her stamp on the women’s 17-18 group on Thursday evening when she took yet another gold medal in the two-kilometer individual pursuit final when she beat out silver medalist Sawyer Taylor (JAKROO).
In the 500-meter time trial, Marcy Bardman (Oley, Pa./Sprinter’s Edge) was the victorious one with her time of 37.705. She bested second- and third place time trialists Eva Burke (Macungie, Pa./Sprinter’s Edge) and Allyson Wasielewski (Orefield, Pa./Sprinter’s Edge).
The Madison was also contested for women 15-18. In that event, the iTwenty pair of Megan Jastrab (Apple Valley, Calif./iCademy)and Zoe Ta-Perez (Orange, Calif./Sho-Air TWENTY20 Development) were victorious ahead of Texas Tough’s Bridget Tooley (Frisco, Texas /Sun & Skit Women’s Racing), and Paige Zizka (Katy, Texas/Northwest Cycling).
Friday is the penultimate day of racing at Track Nationals. International omniums will be held for elite men and women, and for juniors 17-18. Additionally, the elite athletes will contest the sprints. Then on Saturday, racing will conclude with elite points races and keirins.
