Tom Mains Election Statement

Tom Mains
Cyclo-Cross Committee - L.A. Representative

My name is Tom Mains and I have been involved in competitive cycling for more than 25 years. I am the current President of the New Jersey Bicycling Association. I have held this post for the past 7 years.  In this time, we have seen a more than 50% increase in the number of licensed riders in NJ as well as a large increase in the number of rider days at our local races. Much of this increase can be attributed to the growth of cyclocross, both in NJ and nationally. During my tenure, we have created a very successful local cyclocross series, the NJ CX Cup.
Focusing on the grassroots, local growth of cyclocross, is as important or maybe even more so, than the international aspect.  We need to continue to bring riders and sponsors into cyclocross to fuel the phenomenal growth we've seen the last few years.
I have an extensive background in all levels of the sport. I currently am a licensed official, rider and mechanic. I promote nearly a dozen local events each year and work with many other race directors through my event services company to make their events the best they can be. I have been directly involved in various aspects of promoting and running the USGP of Cyclocross for the past 6 years. I was involved with the organization of the UCI Masters World CX Championships in 2012 and 2013, assisted with the UCI World Championships this past February and have worked as a mechanic for the US National Team.
I feel that my broad experience from the grassroots events in NJ to the largest stage in the world gives me an outstanding opportunity to continue to help the sport of cyclocross grow in the United States. I will bring a unique perspective to the committee based on my past experience at all levels of cycling as well as my varying roles within the sport.
A vote for me is a vote for everyone that is involved with cyclocross.
