Six more juniors earn Stars-and-Stripes jerseys on Tuesday

  
  


Carson, Calif. (August 1, 2017) – Six more national titles were awarded at the 2017 USA Cycling Junior and Elite Track National Championships on Tuesday for the men’s and women’s 17-18 scratch races, and the overall omniums in the 11-12 and 13-14 categories.
 
Alijah Beatty (Washington, Iowa/Northstar Development Cycling) added a second Stars-and-Stripes jersey to the one she scored in the points race on Monday when she won the women’s 17-18 four-kilometer scratch race on Tuesday. The national champ beat out second- and third-place finishers Sawyer Taylor (San Rafael, Calif./JAKROO p/b Chrome Industries) and McKenzie Steiner (Del Mar, Calif./Swami’s Junior Development Team).
 
On the men’s side, Colby Lange (Edwards, Colo./ LUX Cycling/ LUX/Stradling p/b Specialized) proved to be number one over the five kilometers of the men’s 17-18 scratch race. He grabbed the gold medal ahead of Zachary Gottesman (Greenbrae/NCCF Team Specialized) and Weston Giem (Valencia, Calif./ Stage 17 Racing/ BMW Major Motion Development Team).
 
With a victory in the scratch race on Tuesday, Divya Verma (Breinigsville, Pa./T-Town Elite) officially swept the women’s 11-12 events and took the omnium national title ahead of silver and bronze medalists Homare Yamashita (Breinigsville, Pa./T-Town Elite) and Natalie Wang (San Diego, Calif./SDBC/Emerald Textiles).
 
Maxwell Oestreich (Powder Springs, Ga./Junior Flyers) won Monday’s scratch race and placed second in Tuesday’s to take the overall omnium national title in the men’s 11-12 group. Jonah Hover (Allentown, Pa./T-Town Elite) and Johnny Rhodes Delbridge (East Point, Ga.) were second and third.
 
In the women’s 13-14 omnium, it was Chloe Patrick (Carson, Calif./CCF Racing Team) to ride into the Stars-and-Stripes jersey. She combined her time trial gold and points race gold from Monday with a bronze medal in the scratch race on Tuesday to earn the title ahead of Makayla MacPherson (Corona, Calif./iCademy) and Olivia Cummins (Fort Collins, Colo./Melton Design Build/GS Forza Cycling).
 
With wins in Monday’s points race and Tuesday’s scratch race, Beckett Tooley (Frisco, Texas/Dallas Racing) grabbed the omnium title in the men’s 13-14 group ahead of Will Sharp (Katy, Texas/Northwest Cycling Club) and Ethan Swaidner (Colorado Springs, Colo.)
 
In addition to the national titles that were earned on Tuesday, the men and women in the 15-16 category competed in 500-meter time trials and sprints. Both of those events will count toward their omniums which will be finalized on Wednesday after the morning points races.
 
Sophia Shuhay (NewTripoli, Pa./T-Town Elite) won both the time trial and the sprint in the women’s 15-16 age group on Tuesday. The podium was the same for both events with Zoe Ta-Perez (Orange, Calif./Sho-Air TWENTY20) taking the silver both times and Bridget Tooley (Frisco, Texas/Sun & Ski Women’s Racing) scoring two bronze medals.
 
Jeanluc Contant-Galitello (Pompano Beach, Fla./Interactive Metronome) clocked a 35.125 to win the men’s 15-16 time trial ahead of Peter Moore (Saint Paul, Minn./Donkey Label) and Max Browne (Houston, Texas/Momentum Coaching Group). Moore then improved upon his time trial silver with a win in the 15-16 sprint during the evening session. He outsprinted Billy Taylor (New York, NY/Star Track Racing) who was second while Contant-Galitello was third.
 
Wednesday will feature 15-16 points races, team pursuits, and team sprints; 17-18 team sprints, team pursuits; 15-18 keirins; and elite team sprints and team pursuits.
