Criminal Background Checks

1. Log into your USA Cycling account.
2. Click on "My Account" in the upper right corner of the webpage.
3. Under the welcome banner, there are several links, click on "account".
4. Within the account screen, under your personal information, there is an information box entitled "Background Check".
a. If you do not have a CBC, your CBC is not current or it is nearing expiration, there will be a "click here" link for you to use    to start or update your CBC.  Using this link is important as it transfers your USA Cycling ID to NCSI.  By using this link your account information will be automatically upated when your CBC is completed.
b. If you have a CBC and it is current, your account will show you the expiration date of your CBC.  You will not receive a "click here" link until you are within 90 calendar days of your expiration date.  USA Cycling will automatically send a reminder email to the email address listed in your account information when your CBC is within 30 days of expiration to remind you to update your CBC.  Remember, if you CBC expires, any license requiring a CBC is then suspended until the CBC is brought current.

Occasionally, while going through the CBC process, NCSI may require additional information from an applicant to help source accurate records.  Most often, NCSI requests the information because the applicant has a common name.  If you question the validity of an email sent to you by NCSI, please do not hesitate to call their office: 866.833.7100866.833.7100.
1. If you've received a pre-adverse action letter from NCSI, it indicates NCSI sourced a criminal record in your criminal background check (CBC) and unless the record is inaccurate, your CBC will result in a red light.
2. If you believe the criminal record sourced by NCSI is incorrect, please contact NCSI immediately to dispute the sourced record.  The letter should provide the appropriate contact information.
3. You can only appeal an inaccurate record, you cannot appeal a red light determination based on an accurate record.
USA Cycling has posted it's criminal background check (CBC) criteria online for you to view.  The CBC criteria is listed in section 8 of the Criminal Background Check Policy.
No, a green light CBC is good for 2 years and is good for any license requiring a CBC.  For a list of licenses requiring a CBC, please visit section 2 of the Criminal Background Check Policy.

  2. Use either of the methods listed above to connect to NCSI’s website.
  3. When asked "is this your first time using NCSI?" Click "no"
  4. You will then identify yourself one of two ways (last name, DOB and SSN or applicant ID and DOB).
  5. Sign off on the consent forms which will allow NCSI to share your USA Triathlon screen with USA Cycling.
  6. Email USA Cycling at safesport@usacycling.org that the results have been released (NCSI does not notify USA Cycling that the results have been shared).

Users commonly report troubles with the education program when using Internet Explorer as the browser.  Users have had much fewer problems when using FireFox or Chrome.  If you are experiencing problems when using Internet Explorer, you could try using a different browser or downloading one if you do not have a different browser.  If you need further assistance, use the Contact page on the SafeSport training website.
You should be able to access the training by logging back into your account and click on the button entitled “Your Courses”.  A new screen will appear and in the center of your new screen there will be a SafeSport training listed – click on the words “SafeSport”.  Next a screen will appear with a button "Launch Courses", click that button and you will be allowed to re-engage in the training right where you left it.

If that doesn’t work, use this link: http://training.teamusa.org/home/contact to contact the USOC for more assistance in determining the problem.
