About the Pro Cross Country Tour (XCT)

The USA Cycling Pro Mountain Bike Cross Country Tour presented by Sho-Air (ProXCT) will consist of seven UCI-sanctioned events throughout the United States, providing world-class athletes with a consistent stage on which to ply their trade.

Beginning in March of 2009, the ProXCT will visit six states and offer series ranking points to top finishers, resulting in overall individual and team titles for men and women. In addition, competitors will also have the opportunity to accumulate international ranking points since all seven races are inscripted on the UCI calendar.

The series opens with the Fontana round of the U.S. Cup in California on March 29, then continues with the Sea Otter Classic in Monterey on April 19. The Bump N’ Grind in Birmingham, Ala. on May 31 marks the third stop before Colorado Springs hosts the fourth round on June 13 with the Carmichael Training Systems Sand Creek International Classic. Mount Snow Resort in West Dover, Vermont welcomes round five on August 8, while the Yankee Clipper at Windham Mountain in New York on August 15 provides back-to-back East Coast stops. The season then concludes with the USA Cycling ProXCT Finals in Las Vegas on September 26, one day after the conclusion of the industry’s annual gathering at the Interbike Expo...read more.

Objectives of the Pro XCT

  1. To award the #1 pro plate in the United States.
  2. Provide a sequence of races to professional riders and professional teams in which they may accumulate UCI ranking points and/or the top cash purses available in the United States under the traditional XCO format.
  3. To raise the competitive level of the professional ranks in mountain bike racing in the United States.

How will this be achieved?

Individual rider and team rankings
Individual rider rankings and registered pro team rankings will be calculated after each event in the Pro XCT. The rider and team rankings will be updated on the USA Cycling website after each event. The top-five riders and teams will be posted on a 'leaders' board.

Leaders Jerseys
A leader's jersey will be provided to both the elite males and elite females for each event in the Pro XCT. The leader's jersey will be presented after each race in the Pro XCT and presented on the podium immediately following the Elite Male and Elite Female XCO awards.

Leaders Number Plates
Leaders' number plates (15-deep for males and 15-deep for females) will be issued for each race in the Pro XCT. The 2009 Leaders Number Plates will be issued at the first event based on 2008 USAC-MTB National XC Calendar (MBNC-XC) rankings and the latest UCI rider rankings. The leaders number plates will be issued at each subsequent event based on the current leader and rider rankings as of the last event.

Guaranteed Cash Purse and UCI Inscription
A guaranteed cash purse and UCI inscription will be required for each race included in the 2009 USA Cycling Pro XCT presented by Sho-Air. The cash purse being offered at each event is included on their event information page. The minimum Pro cash purse for the UCI levels may be found on this link:

Will women and men be offered an equal cash purse?
Promoters have the option of offering equal cash purse for males and females.

What events will offer equal cash purse?
Bump and Grind: The top-10 males/top-10 females will have an equal cash purse payout.

Fontana, Colorado, Mount Snow, and Las Vegas: The top-five male/top-five females will have equal cash purses if at least 25 women are registered for the Pro XCO elite female field at each event. The equal payout structure will be based on the UCI Category 3 XCO payout structure for males. If there are less than 25 women, the payout will be structured according to the UCI Category 3 XCO for males and females.
Sea Otter, Windham: These events will be offering the UCI Category 1 XCO pro cash purses.
