Pro CX: Leads shrink, standings tighten after two-event weekend

(Nov. 25, 2014) – The men’s and women’s 2014-15 USA Cycling Professional Cyclo-cross Calendar (Pro CX) standings leads held by Jeremy Powers (Easthampton, Mass./Rapha Focus) and Caroline Mani (Littleton, Colo./Raleigh-Clement) decreased dramatically after strong performances from the Pro CX top fives at the Nov. 22-23 Rockland County Supercross Cup in Stony Point, N.Y., and CXLA Weekend in Los Angeles.

Powers maintained his lead in the men’s standings with 938 points, but James Driscoll (Park City, Utah/Raleigh-Clement) picked up two wins at the CXLA Weekend to apply the pressure with 916 points. Ben Berden (Boulder, Colo.Raleigh-Clement) recorded respective third- and second-place finishes at CXLA to bring his third-place point total to 775, while Cameron Dodge (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Pure Energy-Scott Bikes) won the Nov. 22 Supercross contest to retain fourth with 517. Stephen Hyde (Easthampton, Mass./JAM Fund Cycling Team) rounds out the top five with 446 points.

Like Powers, Mani’s 808 points were good enough to hold the women’s standings lead, but a surging Courtenay McFadden (Bellingham, Wash./GE Capital - American Classic) climbed the podium twice at CXLA to jump from third to second with 749 points. Meredith Miller (Boulder, Colo./Noosa Professional Cyclocross) dropped from second to third with 705, followed by Nov. 23 CXLA winner Katerina Nash (Truckee, Calif./Luna Pro Team) with 610 points and Gabby Durrin (Westhampton, Mass./Neon Velo Cycling Team) with 530 points.

In juniors action, Spencer Petrov (Mason, Ohio/Element Cycles) retained his lead in the juniors standings with 138, but Lance Haidet’s (Bend, Ore./BEAR Development Team) fourth- and first-place finishes at CXLA propelled him into second with 133 points. Trailing closely behind, Brannan Fix (Fort Collins, Colo./Boo Bicycles/TrainingPeaks) used two CXLA silver medals to jump into third with 130 points, followed by Cameron Beard (Bend, Ore./CyclocrossWorld.com Devo), who dropped from second to fourth with 110 points. Liam Dunn (Denver, Colo./Clif Bar Development Team) rounds out the juniors top five with 108 points.
