Pro CX heads to Jackson Park for UCI-North Carolina Grand Prix

  
  


Hendersonville, N.C. (December 9, 2013) — The North Carolina Grand Prix, a part of the USA Cycling Pro CX Cyclo-cross Calendar (Pro CX) heads to Jackson Park in Hendersonville, NC on December 14-15, 2013. The top US pro cyclo-cross racers have registered including the top-ranked USA Cycling racer Jeremy Powers, second-ranked Timothy Johnson, third-ranked Ben Berden and USA Cycling U23 national champion Yannick Eckmann. Zach McDonald, who took second place in the elite men's race at the 2013 USA Cycling Cyclo-cross National Championships, will also be in attendance along with several other top racers. The NCGP non-elite races are also a part of the North Carolina Cyclo-Cross Series presented by Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. Hundreds of amateur cyclists will round out the NC Grand Prix, competing for medals and award money.

Henderson County Parks and Recreation Department will partner with North Carolina Cyclo-Cross to host the event in Jackson Park, with the course taking advantage of the natural terrain featured in the park. Racing will start at 9 a.m. both days, with the featured elite women racing at 10:50 a.m. and the elite men racing at 1:45 p.m. There will be a free youth race with prizes for all each day at 12 p.m. The event also features the Vendor Zone with various bicycle industry companies present along with Hubba Bubba BBQ, Flat Rock Village Bakery and more. The event is free to spectators! Jackson Park will remain open for public use, but there will be no through traffic during the event.

Cyclo-cross is a fast-paced, spectator-friendly cycling discipline that combines road and mountain bike aspects, requiring riders to ride over switching terrain and at times dismount and run or carry their bikes. The North Carolina Cyclo-Cross Series was founded in 1997 and consists of 15 races across North Carolina. Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. is the 2013-14 series sponsor, with product support from ProGold Lubricants. The NC Grand Prix is a UCI category 2 race offering UCI world ranking points and points for the Pro CX.
