Intl. Omnium to be stand-alone championship in Rock Hill

The Giordana Velodrome in Rock Hill, S.C. will host the 2012 & 2013 USA Cycling International Omnium Track National Championship. Previously held in conjunction with the USA Cycling Elite Track National Championships, the international omnium is being carved out in effort to allow top elite riders to concentrate on the event most recently added to the Olympic slate.
The international omnium is a compilation of six track events.

The stand-alone event will be held August 17-18, 2012 in the state-of-the-art velodrome set to open in early spring 2012. The 250-meter and 42-degree banked velodrome, designed by the renowned German architect, Ralph Schuermann, is set to host the national championship event just after the 2012 London Olympic Games.
"We are proud to have been selected to host the 2012 and 2013 USA Cycling International Omnium Track National Championships in our new Giordana Velodrome,” stated City of Rock Hill City Manager David B. Vehaun. “Choosing the Giordana Velodrome indicates a significant level of confidence in the facility and all the partners involved."
Due to costly barriers and low participation rates, the Tandem Track National Championships will be eliminated in 2012 keeping the number of USA Cycling National Championships at 17 annually. Visit the 2012 USA Cycling National Championships calendar for the full list of events.
