USA Cycling BMX Power Rankings Info & Points Table

USA Cycling has created a rankings system to identify the best U.S. BMX performers in international and domestic BMX racing. The USA Cycling BMX Power Rankings will include points for Elite Men, Elite Women, Junior Men and Junior Women from the BMX World Championships, Supercross World Cups, and the USA Cycling Elite BMX National Championships.

In the past, USA Cycling has relied entirely on the published UCI BMX world ranking system. However, after working with the UCI ranking system we now feel the UCI rankings alone do not fully reflect current podium capability. With the Olympic-style format of BMX racing, known as the UCI Supercross World Cup and the BMX World Championships, we believe it is crucial that our Olympic hopefuls focus on this style of international BMX racing as this replicates the Olympic racing format.

In the 2012 UCI season, USA Cycling will offer the highest single day points to the BMX World Championship (class 1). We will continue to award points and urge all our athletes to participate in the UCI Supercross World Cup series (class 2) since this is where the highest form of points occurs in a series. In addition, we will continue to award points to domestic events which utilize the Supercross start ramp and replicate the Olympic racing format.

To keep our ranking system current and accurately track performances on an Olympic-style BMX track, for 2012 we have removed traditional BMX-type events from our Power Rankings in an effort to create some simplicity while highlighting the Olympic-style BMX tracks, which we now consider to be the predominate type of BMX racing.

The most accurate way to track current and continued athlete performance will be through our USA Cycling BMX Power Rankings system. This system will be based on the UCI points tables but will include only those points earned in the current season (i.e., they will not be based on a 12-month rolling calendar or results from another region of the world unless at a World Championship or Supercross World Cup). Each season, the points will be reset and all athletes will begin the season with zero points. These results and rankings will be posted on the USA Cycling BMX website and will be updated with new points as soon as the results become official from a given UCI calendar event. The standings will show all events on the Ranking Calendar and all points scored to assist everyone in verifying accuracy. This Ranking system may be utilized for assisting the selection process for international funded teams, camps and support.
