USA Cycling names 2010 Officials of the Year

– USA Cycling is pleased to announce its 2010 Officials of the Year.  The national governing body named one overall “National Official of the Year,” five “Regional Officials of the Year,” one “Motoref of the Year”, and one “Moto Marshall of the Year.”
 
The honored officials were chosen by the USA Cycling Technical Commission based on their demonstrated excellence in technical skills, management and teamwork, and service to their respective local associations and promoters. 
 
Taking the top honor as “National Official of the Year” was Bonnie Walker (Austin, Texas). Starting the season as Chief Judge at the Amgen Tour of California, Bonnie continued her work as the Nature Valley Grand Prix’s Chief Referee in June. She was then a commissaire for the USA Cycling Junior, U23, & Elite Road National Championships and the USA Cycling Collegiate Track National Championships before finishing her season as the Race Secretary for the USA Cycling Elite Track National Championships.
 
“Bonnie is a versatile and well-respected official, and one of the most sought after officials by race organizers across the country,” explained USA Cycling’s Technical Director, Shawn Farrell. “She works well with riders, team managers, USA Cycling staff, and organizers, and truly exemplifies the best attributes of an official.”
 
Additionally, USA Cycling honored officials in each of its five regions who worked locally, regionally, and nationally to demonstrate excellence in their fields. Congratulations to the following “Regional Officials of the Year”:
 
Bill Wykoff (Clarkston, WA) – Northwest Region Official of the Year
Chuck Hodge (Greenville, SC)  – Southeast Region Official of the Year
Diane Fortini (Hanson, MA)  – Northeast Region Official of the Year
Sean McNeal (Austin, TX)  – Mountain Region Official of the Year
Steve Eppel (Davenport, IA)  – Midwest Region Official of the Year

Each year, USA Cycling also honors the two-wheeled road warriors that keep the races safe out on the road. This year, we congratulate the following individuals:
 
Stephen Johnson (Charlotte, N.C.) – Motoref of the Year
Bob Norem (Lincoln, Calif.) - Moto Marshall of the Year
 
In addition to the recognition bestowed by USA Cycling, several of the organization’s Local Associations have also named their own “Officials of the Year.” Congratulations to the following Local Officials of the Year:
