Koerber takes third in Champéry at UCI World Cup Cross Country #4
Champéry, Switzerland (July 25, 2010) -- The UCI Mountain Bike World Cup series began the second half of its season with a cross-country and downhill event in the Alpine resort town of Champéry, Switzerland.
Willow Koerber (Durango, Colo./Subaru-Trek) finished third in the women's cross-country race, two minutes, 29 seconds behind winner Natalie Schneitter of Switzerland and 16 seconds behind second-place Eva Lechner of Italy. Koerber is now second overall in the UCI World Cup cross-country standings, 14 points behind Lechner and 46 points ahead of Catharine Pendrel of Canada.
In the men's cross-country race, Todd Wells (Durango, Colo./Specialized Factory Racing) was the top American at 12th place, followed five seconds behind by Adam Craig (Bend, Oregon/Rabobank-Giant Offroad Team) in 14th.
Aaron Gwin (Morongo Valley, Calif./Yeti Fox Shox Factory Race Team) was the top American in the men's downhill, coming in eighth. Jacqueline Harmony (Sedona, Ariz./Vixen Racing) was the highest-placed American woman in the downhill, finishing 17th.
Champéry will play host to the 2011 Mountain Bike World Championships. The World Cup curcuit continues July 31 through August 1 in Val de Sole, Italy, and wraps up at Windham Mountain in Windham, New York, on August 28 and 29.
