Juniors, women and U23's busy on the road

USA Cycling's development programs are in full swing on the road. Riding for USA Cycling's Women's Development Team, Kendall Ryan (Ventura, Calif./NOW-MS Society) was seventh in Italy's GP Cento over the weekend. As a member of the national governing body's U23 Development Program squad, Larry Warbasse (Traverse City, Mich.) posted an impressive 39th-place out of the 145 riders entered in the De Drie Zustersteden. The juniors are staying busy as well with USA Cycling's Junior Development Program squad joining thirteen other American teams for Le Tour de l'Abitibi in Canada this week.

USA Cycling has fielded a team of six for the Tour de l'Abitibi, a seven-day, six-stage Junior Nation's Cup event that began on July 20 and runs until July 25. In addition to USA Cycling's Development Program Team, thirteen other U.S.-based squads are taking part in the 42nd edition of this prestigious event. USA Cycling's team consists of: Paul Lynch (Colchester, Conn./CL Noonan-Bay Hill Capital-Corner Cycle), Colt Peterson (Huntington Beach, Calif.), Thomas Jondall (Tucson, Ariz.), Nathaniel Geoffrion (Petaluma, Calif./All Sport-Team Swift), Daniel Farinha (San Jose, Calif./San Jose Bicycle Club), and Benny Swedberg (Kent, Wash./Rad Racing). On July 18, USA Cycling entered the following four U23 riders in the De Drie Zustersteden, a one-day race in Belgium: Larry Warbasse (Traverse City, Mich.), Carson Miller (Bend, Ore.), Charlie Avis (Palo Alto, Calif./Trek-Livestrong), and Danny Heeley (Hermosa Beach, Calif./NOW-MS Society). Out of the 145 riders entered the event, Warbasse had the highest finish for the U.S. contingent in 39th place. Miller was 59th, Heeley was 87th, and Avis was 97th. USA Cycling fielded the following women for the GP Cento in Italy on July 17: Coryn Rivera (Tustin, Calif./Peanut Butter & Co TWENTY 12), Kaitie Antonneau (Racine, Wis./Team Kenda), Kendall Ryan (Ventura, Calif./Now-MS Society), Jessica Prinner (South Elgin, Ill/ABD Cycling Team), Jessica Phillips (Aspen, Colo./COLAVITA-BACI p/b COOKING LIGHT), and Tayler Wiles (Bluffdale, Utah).

After a very hot day of racing, Kendall Ryan posted an impressive seventh-place result as the first junior rider to cross the finish line. For more information, click here to visit the event's website.

BMX

In preparation for the BMX World Championships, slated for July 29 - August 1 in South Africa, USA Cycling is holding a Women's Development Program Camp at the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif. The following women are currently participating in the camp which began on July 5 and will run through July 24: Arielle Martin (Pleasant Grove, Utah/Intense-Monster Energy), Amanda Geving (Largo, Fla./MCS), Alise Post (Saint Cloud, Minn./Redline Bicycles), Ashley Verhagen (Simi Valley, Calif.Crupi), Amanda Carr (Punta Gorda, Fla./Endeavor-RippXX), Brooke Crain (Visalia, Calif./Clayborn-Monster Energy), and Taylor Wolcott (Roseville, Calif./Tangent).

Three spots are still available at USA Cycling's Northwest Regional Road Development Camp slated for Pacific University in Forest Grove, Ore., August 1-6.

The next event on tap for USA Cycling's U23 National Development Program is the Tour of Alsace in France, July 27 to August 1. Larry Warbasse, Carson Miller, Charlie Avis, and Danney Heeley will be joined for this event by Jacob Rathe (Portland, Ore.) and Erik Slack (Boise, Idaho).
