Race Director Certification and License FAQs

Club

No, you now have the option to change your club to a race director organization. If you would like to make that change or if you would like to set up a new race director organization please contact your USA Cycling member service coordinator for assistance.  
Any club contact can be listed on a permit of the club's event. Only those club members who have purchased a race director license will be listed as a race director.
Any club contact can be on the permit for an event. 
Any club contact can permit a race so there are no additional fees for races promoted by the same club.

Race director certification

No, in 2013 you will either need a registered club to sponsor the event or hold a current race director license.
No, certification is available for those interested in obtaining more information on race directing methods and best practices.  The level C online education and testing will be available for free for one club member for those who wish to become certified at that level.
No, a certification is issued to the individual going through the education and passing the exam for that level. This certification does not apply to anyone other than that individual. If a club sponsors a series and each individual race director is listed under that club all events can be permitted under the club. Another option would be to purchase a race director organization and list each race director under that organization where the series events will be permitted under.  
Level C is currently available to all licensed race directors and to one member of a USA Cycling registered club. If you are a license race director the Level C manual and exam can be accessed through your My USA Cycling account under the tool link. If you are a member of a club and wish to obtain the free certification please have your club president select you as the comp race director license. At which time the material and exam will open up under your My USA Cycling account under tools. Race director license

A race director license is a license that recognizes the professional race director and enables an individual to permit event without a sponsoring club. It also allows the licensee to run and vote for various Sport Committee positions.  
$150 for the calendar year and can be purchased through your my USA Cycling account using the "Purchase/Renew License" option above your name on your My USA Cycling account home page.  
No, this is not a racing license this license allows an individual to permit an event.
No, a race director license is a license that enables an individual to permit an event without a club affiliation.  Certification is a professional certification given to an individual who has gone through the education module and passed an exam showing proficiency on that level's topics.  
The race director license and club registration are two different memberships. Though each registered club receives one complimentary race director license to assign to a member of the club. This allows that individual the opportunity to take the Level C race director certification for free. A registered club can still permit an event without a licensed race director in 2013. 
There isn't a discount, but we do offer a complimentary race director license for one member of every registered club. This allows that individual to take the Level C race director certification course for free. This is a one year license that expires on 12/31 of the year assigned.
Sign in to your My USA Cycling account or create one using the Sign in button on the top right hand side of the USA Cycling homepage. Under your My USA Cycling account home page above your name using the Purchase/Renew License link. You'll then click the Non-Racing License/Manuals title and this will open to a number of licenses. You'll select race director license and proceed to your cart.
