USA Cycling names team for Pan American Road & Track Championships

Colorado Springs, Colo. (April 16, 2010) – USA Cycling announced today the team that will represent the United States at the Pan American Road and Track Championships, May 10-18, in Aguascalientes, Mexico.

Fifteen riders (six men and nine women) will travel to the Continental Championships where significant international ranking points will be on the line.

In the men’s road events, Alex Howes (Boulder, Colo./Team Holowesko Partners), Ben King (North Garden, Va./Trek-Livestrong), and Cody O’Reilly (Santa Barbara, Calif./Bissell) will line up for the road race while Howes and King will also contest the time trial.

On the women’s side of competition, Amber Neben (Irvine, Calif.) and Shelley Evans (Scotts Valley, Calif./Peanut Butter & Co. TWENTY 12) will race the clock in the individual time trial. The pair will then be joined by Kelly Benjamin (Portland, Ore./Colavita-Baci p/b Cooking Light) and Theresa Cliff-Ryan (Cedar Springs, Mich./Colavita-Baci p/b Cooking Light) in the women’s road race.

Following the road racing portion of the event, riders will take to the track. In addition to racing the road events, O’Reilly will represent the U.S. on the track in the men’s endurance events – the points race, scratch race, and omnium. In the sprint events, Giddeon Massie (Cypress, Calif./Bike Religion) and Daniel Walker (Houston, Texas/Momentum Coaching) will contest the sprint and the keirin while Massie and TJ Mathieson (Redondo Beach, Calif./Momentum Coaching) will compete in the men’s kilometer time trial.

Like O’Reilly, Shelley Evans and Theresa Cliff-Ryan will also cross over from the road competitions to the track, both competing in the women’s points race and scratch race. Three-time world champion Sarah Hammer (Temecula, Calif./American Track Foundation) will contest both the omnium and individual pursuit before teaming up with Lauren Tamayo (Asheville, NC/Peanut Butter & Co. TWENTY 12), Dotsie Bausch (Irvine, Calif./INCYCLE-SCVELO), and Cari Higgins (Boulder, Colo./Peanut Butter & Co. TWENTY 12) for the three-kilometer team pursuit. Cristin Walker (Houston, Texas/Momentum Coaching) will be the lone woman to race in the women’s sprint events, taking on the sprint, keirin, and 500-meter time trial.
