2009 marked seventh consecutive year of growth for USA Cycling

December 21, 2009

Dear USA Cycling Members,

As 2009 draws to a close, I’d like to thank you for your continued participation in our great sport and for your continued support of USA Cycling.

It was another extraordinary year for American cycling as membership in USA Cycling increased more than 6.0% compared to 2008, marking our seventh consecutive year of growth. Additionally, our number of affiliated clubs increased by nearly 10% while our number of competitive event sanctions increased by nearly 4%. Overall, in 2009 USA Cycling grew to just over 66,800 licensees who belonged to more than 2,250 clubs and participated in 2,640 sanctioned events!  Thank you for helping sustain this amazing decade of growth in American cycling!

The 2010 racing season is just around the corner, and I would like to take this opportunity to remind you that 2010 racing licenses are available for purchase now. You can quickly and easily purchase your 2010 license online at www.usacycling.org/myusac. At the end of the online renewal process, you’ll be prompted to take a 10-minute survey. This survey will help us as we continually strive to implement new member benefits and programs that meet our members’ needs. Your feedback is very important and I strongly encourage you to complete this survey.

While cycling has continued to grow at the amateur level here in the United States, American cycling has also continued to thrive at the top international level. U.S. riders won 10 world championship medals at the elite level across the five major disciplines of competitive cycling in 2009.

While renewing your license, please remember that you can support our American athletes and development programs in cycling with an additional donation.  The on-going success of USA Cycling’s National Teams and development athletes is thanks in large to the consistent annual giving of individual donors to USA Cycling and our Development Foundation.   I encourage you to join these remarkable supporters of cycling who are directly responsible for the continued success of our athletes and programs.  If you have already purchased a 2010 license, you may make an on-line donation to support your USA Cycling National Teams and athletes by visiting www.usacycling.org/donate.

As we continue in our efforts to provide you with new and valuable benefits, we encourage you to visit your My USA Cycling page on a regular basis to learn about the latest benefits and services we offer. As a reminder, here’s a look at some of the great benefits you’ll be able to take advantage of with your 2010 racing license:

Save up to $25 off your next Hertz car rental
