U.S. squad grabs two Track World Cup medals

The U.S. contingent earned two medals at the third round of the UCI Track World Cup in Cali, Colombia, Dec. 10-12. Additionally, USA Cycling is currently holding its second BMX Junior Development Program Camp of the 2009/2010 season.

NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT TEAM PROGRAM

Riding for the U.S. National Team at round three of the Track World Cup were Guy East (Indianapolis, Ind.) and Daniel Holloway (Morgan Hill, Calif./Garmin-Felt- Holowesko). The duo rode to ninth-place in the Madison. East also placed 17th in the men's scratch race.

Other Americans in action in Cali included Ryan Luttrell (Colorado Springs, Colo./Black Dog Professional Cycling Team) and James Carney (Tuscon, Ariz./Salamander), who were 20th and 21st respectively in the men's points race. Carney also made the 7th-place effort in the scratch race.

Women's DEVELOPMENT TEAM PROGRAM

The women on the U.S. National Team brought home two medals from the Track World Cup in Cali.

Sarah Hammer (Temecula, Calif./American Track Foundation) set a new national record when she qualified first for the individual pursuit with a time of 3:27.5. She then went on to beat out Canadian Tara Whitten for the gold medal in the final. Hammer's individual pursuit was the third fastest ever ridden, and the fastest ever outside of the 2004  Olympic Games in Athens.

Hammer later joined forces with Dotsie Bausch (Irvine, Calif./Jazz Apple/Champion Systems Professional) and Lauren Tamayo (Asheville, NC/Team TIBCO) for a silver medal ride in the women's team pursuit. In qualifying, the trio bested their previous national record of 3:31  by three seconds. Then in the final, they broke their record again, clocking a 3:28.4.

Also riding for the U.S. National Team in Cali was Cari Higgins (Boulder, Colo./Proman Hit Squad). Higgins rode to 17th-place in the women's points race.
