Olds grabs silver in World Cup points race

USA Cycling fielded riders for two track events last week. Six riders rode for the U.S. National Team in round two of the UCI Track World Cup in Melbourne, AUS, Nov. 19-21. Shelley Olds (Scotts Valley, Calif./Proman Hit Squad) produced the top result for the squad with a silver medal effort in the women's points race. Additionally, Iggy Silva (San Diego, Calif./Iggy Racing) and Ian Moir (Long Beach, Calif./Rock Racing) represented the U.S. with a third-place effort in the Madison in a local Gent, Belgium race - the Jeugdmeeting.

NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT TEAM PROGRAM

Giddeon Massie (Huntington Beach, Calif./Bike Religion), Cody O'Reilly (Santa Barbara, Calif./Bissell), and Austin Carroll (Orange, Calif./BMC Racing) rode for the U.S. National Team in the second round of the UCI Track World Cup in Melbourne last weekend. Massie clocked a time of 1:03.706 in the men's kilometer time trial to post an impressive sixth-place finish. Massie also rode to 12th-place in the keirin and 18th-place in the sprint. Riding for the U.S. National team, Iggy Silva and Ian Moir contested a local race in Gent, Belgium - Jeugdmeeting. The pair placed third in the Madison.

women's DEVELOPMENT TEAM PROGRAM

Riding for the U.S. National Team in the women's races in Melbourne were Shelley Olds, Kimberly Geist (Emmaus, Pa./Team Alliance Environmental), and Lauren Tamayo (Asheville, N.C./Team TIBCO). Olds rode to a silver medal in the women's points race with 11 points compared to the 16 collected by gold medalist Giorgia Bronzini of Italy. Another strong result for Olds was her ninth-place effort in the scratch race. Tamayo finished 24th in the points race. Other American results included a bronze medal effort from Theresa Cliff-Ryan (Cedar Springs, Mich./Verducci/Breakaway Racing) in the scratch race. USA Cycling is holding a camp at the Home Depot Center Velodrome in Carson, Calif., Dec. 1-6, to prepare the following riders for the third round of the UCI Track World Cup.
