USA Cycling offers condolences to family of Terry McGinnis
Colorado Springs, Colo. (October 27, 2009) -- USA Cycling would like to express its sincerest condolences to the friends and family of Terry McGinnis, the executive director of the Tour of Utah. McGinnis passed away on Saturday after a prolonged battle with cancer. He was 46.
After the Tour of Utah was cancelled in 2007 due to sponsorship problems, McGinnis held the executive director position in 2008 and 2009 and is largely credited with saving the event.
A professional racer for more than 20 years, McGinnis raced as an elite category 1 cyclist for a decade before being forced to retire in 2007 due to cancer.
"Terry was a long-time personal friend and supporter of the sport of cycling and he will be dearly missed," said USA Cycling's CEO Steve Johnson. "Our thoughts go out to his entire family and the cycling community."
Funeral services will be held Friday, October 30, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at Noah's, 322 West 11000 South, South Jordan, Utah. A friends and family gathering will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. prior to the service.
