Americans strong on the track in Amsterdam
American track cycling was well-represented overseas last week as Iggy Silva (San Diego, Calif./Iggy Racing), Ian Moir (Long Beach, Calif./Rock Racing), Dean Tracy (Colorado Springs, Colo./Land Rover-Orbea) and Cari Higgins (Boulder, Colo./Proman Hit Squad) contested the Amsterdam Six-Day, October 20-25.
NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT TEAM PROGRAM
As part of USA Cycling's track development program, Iggy Silva, Ian Moir, and Dean Tracy represented the U.S. in the Amsterdam Six-Day. Silva and Moir completed the UIV Talents Cup sixth out of twelve. Tracy joined Frenchman Gregory Bauge to place first in the team sprint on night four.
Cari Higgins, riding for USA Cycling's track development program, combined forces with Dutch partner Eva Heijmans to win the Madison on night five and then place third in the general classification after six nights of racing in Amsterdam.
USA Cycling's track development programs will continue as U.S. athletes contest the Grenoble Six-day in France, October 29 - November 3.
The first stop on the 2009-2010 UCI Track World Cup circuit will take place in Manchester, Oct. 31 - Nov. 2. USA Cycling will field a five-rider team for the event. Daniel Holloway (Morgan Hill, Calif./Garmin-Holowesko-Felt) will contest the men's points race and Colby Pearce (Boulder, Colo.) will compete in the men's scratch race. Holloway and Pearce will then team up for the Madison. Coryn Rivera (Tustin, Calif./Proman Hit Squad) and Shelly Olds (Scotts Valley, Calif./Proman Hit Squad) will compete in the women's points race and scratch race. In the scratch race, they'll be joined by Cari Higgins. Higgins will also contest the women's keirin.
