USA Cycling-ABA BMX Junior Development Series continues
Gilbert, Ariz./Colorado Springs, Colo. (October 13, 2009) - Following a great first term, USA Cycling, the national governing body for the sport of cycling in the United States, in conjunction with the American Bicycle Association (ABA), is excited to continue to foster the future of BMX racing with the USA Cycling BMX Junior Development Series. The series will consist of USA Cycling branded events at all ABA sanctioned BMX tracks and ABA National Series events in 2010.
The series will qualify riders, 15-16 years of age, to participate in USA Cycling Junior Development Camps at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif. With four camps scheduled each year, qualified riders will have opportunity to train on the Beijing Olympic replica track and the new ABA sanctioned track, which will replicate the 2010 UCI World Championship track. Qualifying camp participants will also receive instruction in nutrition, strength training and recovery.
The 2010 Junior Development Series kicks off at ABA's up-coming Golden State Nationals in Lancaster, Calif. on October 16th-18th. The next stop for the series will be the ABA's Disney Cup in Orlando, Fla. on October 30th- November 1st before moving on to the ABA BMX Race of Champions event in conjunction with the ABA Grands on November, 27th.
“The goal of this program is to allow our best young U.S. riders an opportunity to progress to the highest level of international BMX competition and to familiarize themselves with the bigger, faster, and more demanding style of BMX racing, which is contested at the UCI Supercross World Cup level and the Olympic Games,” explained Mike King, USA Cycling’s BMX Program Director.
This level of training is becoming more and more essential for athletes to compete at the highest levels and for a rider to reach his or her full potential. The ABA, with 30 plus years of experience in BMX programming, has proven to be an invaluable partner in helping to create this series. The organization will facilitate all points tabulations and event logistics at all national and local series events. USA Cycling and the ABA will continue to take steps to build the future of BMX excellence in the USA.
