New leaders mark CX calendar after week two

The fifth through ninth events of 42 races on the USA Cycling Cyclo-cross National Racing Calendar were contested over the weekend.

Jamey Driscoll (Jericho, Vt./Cannondale-Cyclocrossworld.com) and Katie Compton (Colorado Springs, Colo./Stevens) took the pro men's and women's wins at Cross Vegas in front of a crowd of several thousand bike enthusiasts. Click here for complete results from the Sept. 23rd event. Compton then went on to record a pair of victories at the Planet Bike Cups in Sun Prairie, Wisc. over the weekend. One the men's side, Jeremy Powers (East Hampton, Mass./Cannondale-Cyclocrossworld.com) took the win in Planet Bike Cup I and Erwin Vervecken (BEL/Team Revor-Baboco-Champion System) overtook the powerful field to win Sunday's Planet Bike Cup II. Dan Timmerman (Clay, N.Y./Richard Sachs-RMG Watches-Radix) and Natasha Elliott (CAN/Gurneau) won the Schoolhouse Cyclo-cross in Williston, Vermont which also took place over the weekend. Timmerman also took the win in the second half of the Green Mountain Cyclo-cross weekend while Maureen Bruno-Roy (Arlington, Mass./M&M Racing-Seven Cycles) took the women's win. After nine races, Jonathan Page (Northfield, N.H./Planet Bike) leads in the men's individual standings, while Maureen Bruno-Roy (Arlington, Mass./M&M Racing-Seven Cycles) and Katie Compton (Colorado Springs, Colo./Stevens) are currently tied for the lead in the women's individual USA Cycling Cyclo-cross National Racing Calendar standings. With 33 events remaining on the 2009/2010 USA Cycling Cyclo-cross National Racing Calendar, the current standings are as follows:

2. Jeremy Powers (East Hampton, Mass./Cannondale-Cyclocrossworld.com) 113
