2009-2010 Collegiate season kicks off on the track next weekend
Colorado Springs, Colo. (September 17, 2009) -- The 2009-2010 collegiate cycling season is set to get underway with the USA Cycling Collegiate Track National Championships in Trexlertown, Pa., September 24-26.
Schools from across the nation will converge on T-town to begin the quest for the 2009-2010 overall titles awarded at the end of the school year. Points are accumulated at track, mountain bike, cyclo-cross, and road national championship races. Lees McRae College (Banner Elk, NC) and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (Cambridge, Mass.) will look for good starts on their seasons in hopes of defending the overall titles they won at the end of the 2008-2009 season.
On the track, around 150 student-athletes are expected to compete for national titles in eleven different events. Also up for grabs at the first collegiate national championship of the season will be the omnium titles bestowed upon the top overall male and female individuals in divisions I and II, as well as on the best overall teams in each division. Marian College and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology will ride to defend the team omniums they claimed a year ago.
Competition begins on Thursday, the 24th, with the women’s 3000-meter time trial and the men’s 4000-meter time trial. Click here to see a complete schedule of events at the USA Cycling Collegiate Track National Championships.
