Colorado Springs, Colo. (August 28, 2009) – Registration is now open for the 2009 USA Cycling Bill Woodul Race Mechanic Clinic. Slated for December 10-13, 2009 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, the clinic is open to U.S. residents and USA Cycling license holders who have at least two years of bicycle mechanic experience and wish to become USA Cycling-licensed mechanics.
Participants will have the opportunity to receive hands-on experience, network with other mechanics, and learn from bicycling industry experts including frame builders, tool builders, and veterans of past Olympic Games and World Championships. Graduates of the clinic will be eligible to purchase a USA Cycling mechanic’s license and will be added to a national database of mechanics.
Bill Woodul held the first USA Cycling mechanic’s clinic in 1988 as a way to recruit mechanics for his program, and past graduates of the clinic have gone on to work for teams all over the world. Earning a USA Cycling mechanic’s license can open new doors for mechanics, qualifying them to work at Olympic Trials, National Championships, and USA Cycling Training Camps. Many corporate neutral support systems also require the license. Additionally, the license provides mechanics with insurance coverage during their participation at sanctioned events.
Space in the USA Cycling Bill Woodul Race Mechanic Clinic is limited to 50 participants to ensure one-on-one interaction between instructors and students. The registration fee is $300 and covers housing at the Olympic Training Center, meals, and learning materials.
Registration closes on November 1. For more information, email USA Cycling Operations Manager James Stanfill or call him at (719) 434-4228.
