Robinson second in round two of Supercross World Cup

Peitermaritzburg, South Africa (August 24, 2009) -- The second of four UCI BMX Supercross World Cup events took place in Peitermaritzburg, South Africa over the weekend.

Reigning elite world champion Donny Robinson (Napa, Calif.) finished second in the men’s contest to 2009 junior world champ Sam Willoughby (AUS). The Aussie entered the final with the inside lane and a powerful start that propelled him to the win. Netherlands rider Rob van den Wildenberg rounded out the men’s podium with the bronze medal. Nic Long (Lakeside, Calif.) also donned the Team USA jersey in the men’s final, riding to a sixth-place finish.

In the women’s competition, Alise Post (St. Cloud, Minn.) made it to the main where she scored a seventh-place result for the American contingent. New Zealand’s Sara Walker took the win ahead of silver and bronze medalists Gabriella Diaz (ARG) and Evan Ailloud (FRA).

The next Supercross World Cup will take place on this side of the pond, September 18-19, in Chula Vista, Calif. For more about this event, click here.
