Miller sweeps North Carolina criteriums; Colavita-Sutter Home-Cooking-Light takes men's team lead
A pair of North Carolina criteriums marked the 21st and 22nd races of the USA Cycling National Racing Calendar over the weekend. David Veilleux (CAN/Kelly Benefit Strategies) grabbed the men's win in Presbyterian Hospital Invitational Criterium in downtown Charlotte on Saturday, while Brooke Miller (Santa Cruz, Calif./Team Tibco) won the sprint in the women's race. On Sunday the action moved north to Winston Salem where Aldo Ilesic (SLO/Team Type I) earned the pro men's victory and Miller picked up her second NRC win in as many days. Click here for complete results from the Hanes Park Classic.
Even though Lucas Sebastian Haedo (ARG/Colavita-Sutter Home p/b Cooking Light) finished third in the Hanes Park Classic, Tom Zirbel (Boulder, Colo./Bissell) was able to hold on to his overall lead in the men's NRC standings. The Colavita-Sutter Home-Cooking Light men's squad however used several strong performances to take over the lead in the men's team standings. While things are tightening on the women's side, Alison Powers (Boulder, Colo./Team Type I) still retains a commanding lead however her Team Type I squad was overtaken by Team TIBCO in the team standings last week.
