Menzies scores at Elk Grove, Zirbel grabs NRC lead
Karl Menzies (AUS/OUCH-Maxxis) used consistent performances throughout the USA Cycling National Racing Calendar's richest event, the Tour of Elk Grove, to take home the $25,000 GC winner's prize. Menzies finished third, second and 11th in the three-stage event to edge BMC's Brent Bookwalter (Banner Elk, N.C.) by a mere seven seconds for the overall crown.
Tom Zirbel (Boulder, Colo./Bissell) finished third in the overall at Elk Grove to leap frog Rory Sutherland (AUS/OUCH-Maxxis) and take over the NRC men's lead after 20 of 26 events. With Elk Grove a men's-only NRC event, Alison Powers (Boulder, Colo./Team Type I) continues to lead the women's individual standings.
