Cascade and Chicago Crit highlight NRC; Sutherland grabs lead

 

National Racing Calendar July 27, 2009 Cascade and Chicago Crit highlight NRC as Sutherland takes men's lead Two events marked the USA Cycling National Racing Calendar last week, the five-stage Cascade Cycling Classic in Bend, Ore. and the Chicago Criterium. Evie Stevens (New York, N.Y./Webcor) and Oscar Sevilla (MEX/Rock Racing) pulled off overall wins following six hot stages of the Cascade Cycling Classic in Bend. Along Chicago's Columbus and Michigan Avenues, Brad Huff (Springfield, Mo./Team Redlands) outsprinted a huge pro men's field to take the narrow victory over Australians Hilton Clarke (Fuji-Survetto) and Karl Menzies (OUCH) in the Chicago Criterium. With his fourth-place overall finish at Cascade Rory Sutherland (AUS/OUCH-Maxxis) jumped into the lead in the men's individual NRC standings after 20 of 26 events, while Alison Powers (Boulder, Colo./Team Type I) continues to lead the women's individual standings. Colavita-Sutter Home p/b Cooking Light leads the men's team standings while Team Type I remained in the top spot on the women's side.
