Bicycle Regulations Clarification for National Championships in 09

Per release by the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) in May of 2009, the interpretation of UCI bicycle regulations is being tightened as of July 1, 2009. The interpretation deals specifically with the ratio of length to width of parts of a bicycle, including the tubes and accessories, and is known as the 3:1 aspect ratio rule. USA Cycling would like to clarify that enforcement of this 3:1 aspect ratio for handlebars will begin January 1, 2010 for National Championships for Junior 17-18, U23, Elites, and Master divisions. The aspect ratio must be enforced at UCI calendar races held in the United States beginning July 1, 2009.

For the guide on how officials will measure bikes at National Championships, please refer to the USA Cycling Bike Measurement Handbook on the officials portion of the USA Cycling website, here.
