Technical Director Update May 2009

Technical Director Update

May 14th, 2009

This will be a short one. I have just a couple of things to mention.

Official’s Clothing

We are close to having a new officials’ clothing program. We are working with a new distributor and patches have been ordered. At the moment we are going over our initial order and prioritizing certain items. One question has come up regarding hat styles. To expedite initial production, we would like to focus on one hat first. Below you will find three pictures of hats, two of which are modeled by our very own CEO, Steve Johnson. He is wearing a Watership hat and a regular hat. The third hat (without model), is a different style of the regular hat but in khaki. We have a bet going on which one the officials would prefer, so please email me and let me know which hat you would prefer in our initial order.

New Form

Attached here you will find a revised version of the fine form we use (cleverly labeled as “fine form.” This one has all of the addresses and phone numbers corrected after our move.

We have moved (yes, this is a rerun)

Just a reminder to note our new address and phones. In order to better serve you and expedite faxes, we now utilize a new process whereby all faxes are received directly into the intended staff member’s email as a PDF. This allows us to respond more quickly and retain an electronic copy.

Our new address is:
USA Cycling
210 USA Cycling Point, Suite 100
Colorado Springs, CO 80919
719-434-4200 (main line)
719-434-4300 (main fax)
719-434-4264 (Technical Director’s office phone)
719-434-4364 (Technical Director’s fax)

Note that everyone’s fax follows the same pattern. Therefore, if you know someone’s office phone, you just change the two to a three in the hundreds position of the last four digits.

Important Rule Changes

Last month I mentioned the new rule requiring full-face helmets for downhill and 4X. A question came up at a race regarding dual slalom. The NORBA Board of Trustees specifically excluded dual slalom from the new rule. This was not an omission. The intent of the rule is that it be enforced in downhill and 4X, not in the other gravity events.

Pended Licenses

We still have several officials licenses that have been pended for signatures. Remember that beginning this year, we need a wet signature on all the waivers to reissue officia’ls licenses. If you tried to renew some time ago but have not gotten your license yet, you might be one of the people pended. Please contact the membership department at 719-434-4200 or membership@usacycling.org

Report of Occurrence

Please see last month’s TD update for the full explanation of this, but please remember to check the yes or no box on the report of occurrence regarding whether the injured party has other medical insurance. Thanks.

That’s it for now. Enjoy the rest of the month and watching the Giro on the web.
