Renewing Coaching Licenses
2010 Renewal Information
I had a coaching license in 2008, but I did not renew for 2009. I want to renew for 2010. What do I do?
I had a coaching license prior to 2008, but not since then and I want to renew for 2010.
NOTE: Since we are very close to the end of 2009, information on renewing for 2009 has been removed.
Those who had a coaching license that last expired before or on December 31, 2002 will need to begin at the introductory level due to the changes in the program since 2002.
For those needing to recertify and pay the recertification fee, you should now be able to do so through your MYUSACYCLING function under VIEW AVAILABLE CLINICS. If you are a recertifying level 3 coach, in addition to paying the fee, you must take the current level 3 exam. The online exam will be made available once you pay. The test will appear on your MYUSACYCLING page under SPECIAL TOOLS.
Also, level 2 and level 1 coaches seeking recertification no longer need to take the recertification exam. They must pay the recertification fee if they did not acquire the necessary CEUs.
You should pay for and take the recertification exam before submitting the coaching license application, waivers and fee.
RENEWAL INFORMATION
Preliminary Renewal Information for 2010
Renewals for 2010 will begin on December 1, 2009. The 2010 application should be available on or just after December 1. If you will need to complete the criminal background check to renew, please wait until December 1 or later to submit the information for renewing for 2010. You must use the 2010 application; the 2010 application should be available December 1, 2009.
Please check the 2010 Renewal List. (Please note that if you upgraded after November 18, the report will not reflect that change). Find your name on the list. If there is a YES in the appropriate column, you need to submit the criminal background check, CEU Summary Report form, submit the coaching license application, waivers and fee. If there is a NO in the appropriate column, you simply need to pay the annual coaching fee and submit the signed waivers that are part of the coaching license application. If you think there is an error, please notify the Coaching Education Manager.
Please note that the list was generated on October 6, 2009. If you earned or renewed your coaching license after that date, your name will not appear. If you received your license after December 1, 2008 you will not need the CEU/CBC to renew for 2010. The list will be updated again later in the year.
I had a coaching license in 2008, but I did not renew for 2009. I want to renew for 2010.
You will need to complete the criminal background check procedures AFTER December 1, 2009 regardless of the option you choose. You will also need to send in the 2010 coaching license application (available December 1, 2009).
You have 2 options:
Option A:
Review the CEU policy and submit the CEU Summary Report form showing 4.0 CEUs earned in 2008-2009. Yes, even though you did not have a coaching license, if you completed activities that would qualify for CEUs, you can count them. You should also review the Approved CEU Program listings. The latter is not a complete listing of activities that would count for CEUs. So if you attended something not listed, please send the agenda (or a link to the agenda) to the email address below.
The CEU policy and Summary report form can be found on the coaching program page of the USAC website.
Option B:
Take the recertification or certification exam for your current coaching level and pay the appropriate fee. The fee is listed in the CEU policy. To order the test, email the address below. The recertification fee must accompany the paperwork listed above.

Please note that the recertification exam is based on the current level 3 manual (Introduction to Coaching Cyclists). Level 3 coaches may also purchase the new level 3 manual for $30; once you purchase the manual, you will be eligible to take the level 3 exam. This exam will satisfy the recertification requirement. Please note that if you do not pass the online exam (passing is 80% or better), you will have to wait 30 days to take the exam again. The exam is only available online.
The recertification fee for level 2 is $149. Level 2 coaches no longer need to take the recertification exam.
