Power Based Training Courses

GENERAL INFORMATION
The USA Cycling Power Based Training clinics are open to anyone with an interest in learning more about using powermeters to train better.  Triathlon and cycling coaches (or athletes) will benefit.  A recent addition to the program is a model for assessing running training using the same power principles.

Beginning in 2013, coaches will be abe to count either the power based based training course or the exam for CEUs but not both.  The course is worth 20 CEUs; the certification exam is worth 10 CEUs.

Power Based Training Exam/Certification
For coaches wishing to earn the Certified Power Based Training coach designation, an optional self-paced exam is offered. Only Level 2 and Level 1 coaches are eligible to take the exam and gain the Power Based Training certification.  One does not need to attend the power based training clinic in order to take the certification exam.  For those who attend a USA Cycling power based training clinic, there is no additional cost for the exam; for those who do not attend a USA Cycling clinic, the cost of the exam is $199.  Level 3 coaches may attend the power based training clinic, but they cannot take the exam until they have passed the level 2 exam.

For level 2 and 1 coaches, the certification exam can be downloaded by logging into your account and clicking on "account" (under the Welcome header).  On the account page you will find and click on "Coaching Links (including tests)"  which is where you will find the link to download the test.at no charge.  Your coaching license must be current in order to access the exam.  If you have not attended a Power Based Training clinic, payment for the test is due when you submit your test answers.

A passing score is  80%.  If you fail on the first attempt, you will be given one chance to correct the errors.  If you do not pass the test on the second trial, you must wait one calendar year to re-take the exam.  The entire exam must be re-submitted.  If you re-test, you must pay a $199 fee.  The fee applies even if you have attended a power based training clinic.
