Additional picks complete MTB Worlds team

Colorado Springs, Colo. (July 21, 2006)óFollowing an earlier announcement naming automatic nominations and athletes selected by coaches to represent the United States at the 2006 UCI Mountain Bike World Championships, USA Cycling named 22 additional discretionary picks to complete the 60-rider roster.

Runner-up in the cross country race at the recent USA Cycling Mountain Bike National Championships brought to you by X-fusion and short track national champion Barry Wicks (Corvallis, Ore.) joins Michael Broderick (Chilmark, Mass.) as additional selections to the seven-man menís cross country squad.

Sue Haywood (Davis, W. Va.) and Dara Marks-Marino (Flagstaff, Ariz.) were added to the womenís cross country team.

Spencer Paxson (Middlebury, Vt.), and Andrew Freye (Winthrop, Maine) join three members of the USA Cycling U23 National Team on the menís U23 roster.

The junior menís cross country contingent welcomes Travis Livermon (Winterville, N.C) and Tristan Uhl (Smithville, Texas) to the team while Stephanie White (Bedford, N.H.) joins the junior womenís cross country squad.

Five men were added to the elite downhill team as Cody Warren (Alpine, Calif.), Curtis Keene (Fremont, Calif.), Cole Bangert (Twin Lakes, Colo.), Christopher Herndon (Etowah, N.C.), and Luke Strobel (Renton, Wash.) were selected.

Melissa Buhl (Chandler, Ariz.) was the sole addition to the elite womenís downhill roster.

Logan Bignelli (St. George, Utah), Andrew Pierce (Park City, Utah) and Tim Price (Great Falls, Va.) join the junior menís downhill team.

Mike Haderer (Concord, Calif.), Lars Sternberg (Vashon, Wash.) and Cody Warren were added to the menís 4-cross team and Leanna Gerrard (Lake Tapps, Wash.) rounds out the womenís 4-cross squad.

The 2006 UCI Mountain Bike World Championships are scheduled for August 22-27 in Rotorua, New Zealand.
