How do I become a licensed mechanic?
Every mechanic must successfully complete the mechanics clinic held in Colorado Springs each fall/winter. This intense, four-day clinic instructs mechanics on the aspects of being a race mechanic. The instructors are professional race mechanics and experts from many areas of the bicycling industry.
Who can go to the clinic?
This clinic will not teach you to be a bicycle mechanic. Participants must have two years work experience as a bicycle mechanic.
Why do I need a license?
- A license is required to work at Olympic Trials and National Championships.
- Many corporate neutral support systems also require mechanics to have a license in order to participate in events with their company.
- Licensed mechanics are covered under the USA Cycling insurance policy during their participation at sanctioned events.
- A license is required to work with the U.S. Cycling Team either at training camps or events.
- Earning a license gives a mechanic the opportunity to network during the clinic with industry leaders.
- A license can give bicycle shop owners and staff an advantage over its competitors by demonstrating their desire to participate in the sport on a new and higher level.
