Courtney Reaches World Cup Podium For Second Straight Week

Albstadt, Germany (May 28, 2017) – American Kate Courtney (Kentfield, Calif./Specialized) secured another podium finish on Sunday, this time taking silver in the women’s U23 race at the UCI World Cup in Albstadt, Germany. Sunday’s performance comes one week after she won gold in the World Cup in Nove Mesto, Czech Republic.
Courtney completed the Albstadt course in 1:24:09, 52 seconds behind winner Evie Richards (GBR) who finished in 1:23:17. Sina Frei (SUI) finished third in 1:25:03.
Courtney’s teammate Haley Batten (Park City, Utah/Clif Pro Team) was a strong fifth place in 1:29:14, and Kelsey Urban (Kentfield, Calif./Whole Athlete p/b DNA) finished 46th.
Later in the day, Erin Huck (Boulder, Colo./Cannondale-3Rox) led all American riders in the elite women’s race with an 11th-place, 1:42:23 effort. Yana Belomoina (UKR) took the win in 1:38:25, followed by Maja Wloszczowska (POL) in 1:38:41 and Jolanda Neff (SUI) in 1:38:48.
Lea Davison (Jericho, Vt./Clif Pro Team) was 27th (1:45:47) and Chloe Woodruff (Prescott, Ariz./Stan’s-Pivot Pro Team) finished 49th in the elite women’s contest.
Keegan Swenson (Park City, Utah/Cannondale-3Rox) was the top U.S. rider in Sunday’s elite men’s race in 85th place. Nino Schurter (SUI) took his second consecutive victory with Mathieu van der Poel (NED) in second and Anton Cooper (NZL) placing third.
On Saturday, Christopher Blevins (Durango, Colo./Specialized) placed 29th in the men’s U23 race, 5:37 behind winner Nadir Colledani (ITA). Luke Vrouwenvelder (Chapel Hill, N.C./Bear Development Team) was 46th.
