Arkadelphia, Ark. (May 7, 2017) – After 50 miles of racing, both the pro men’s and women’s races came down to sprint finishes Sunday as the USA Cycling Marathon Mountain Bike National Championships played out on a fast and flowy course that dried out exceptionally well after 2.5 inches of rain fell on Wednesday.

In what has become a familiar scene in the women’s pro race, Rose Grant (Columbia Falls, Mont.) won her fourth consecutive Stars-and-Stripes jersey, but she needed every last ounce of effort to hold off Crystal Anthony (Danvers, Mass./Riverside Racing) to earn the top step on the podium. Grant and Anthony crossed the line with identical times of three hours, 46 minutes and 55 seconds. Amy Beisel (Colorado Springs, Colo./BRAC/ACA) took the bronze medal with a time of 4:05:32.

Meanwhile, in the men’s pro field, Payson McElveen (Durango, Colo./Team RideBiker p/b Sho Air) won a sprint finish over Howard Grotts (Durango, Colo./Specialized Racing) to capture his Stars-and-Stripes jersey. Both riders clocked in at 3:16:47. In another sprint for the bronze medal, Jeremiah Bishop (Harrisonburg, Va./Team Topeak Ergon) edged Justin Lindine (North Ogden, Utah/Apex/NBX/Trek) by three seconds.
