Mulally Seventh in Rainy World Cup Downhill Opener

  
  


(April 30, 2017) – Neko Mulally (Pisgah Forest, N.C.) placed seventh on Sunday in rainy Lourdes, France, as the 27th season of the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup presented by Shimano got underway with the opening round of the downhill competitions. Defending World Cup Champion Aaron Gwin (Wildomar, Calif.) succumbed to the treacherous conditions on the course with two crashes but finished his run even though he was disqualified.

Frenchman Alexandre Fayolle took the victory with a time of 2:52.758. He was followed by Mark Wallace (CAN) in 2:56.084 and Marcelo Gutierrez Villegas (COL) in 2:56.199. Mulally’s run was timed in 2:57.168.

Charlie Harrison (Trabuco Canyon, Calif.) was 27th in 3:01.302, followed by Dakotah Norton (Atlas, Mich.) in 30th (3:01.808), Eliot Jackson (Westlake Village, Calif.) in 49th (3:05.598), Shane Leslie (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) in 60th (3:09.998) and Luca Shaw (Hendersonville, N.C./SRAM Troy Lee Designs) in 75th (3:41.751).
