Richmond, Va. (September 26, 2015) – Team USA earned another piece of hardware at the 2015 UCI Road World Championships on Saturday, this time compliments of Megan Guarnier (Queensbury, N.Y./Boels Dolmans Cycling Team) in the elite women's road race.

It was arguably the most exciting race of the week so far, and Guarnier was able to ride off with the bronze medal after outsprinting a hard-charging bunch at the finish line.

The American finished third to Elizabeth Armistead (GBR) who won the rainbow jersey ahead of silver medalist Anna Van der Breggen (NED).

Guarnier's medal-winning performance came after a dangerous breakaway was caught late in the race. With only two kilometers to go, American Coryn Rivera (Tustin, Calif./UnitedHealthcare) was part of a nine-woman group that had nearly a minute on the field.

"I was surprised it came down so quickly and that we actually caught that group on Libby Hill," Guarnier said of the moment the breakaway was reeled in.

"Then we came over 23rd street and we had a small selection, but I also knew it's a little bit hard to all work together in that moment as well," Guarnier went on about the race's final lap. "Then there was an attack up the right. I knew I had to mark that immediately because if you hesitate in those final kilometers, it's gone."

Evelyn Stevens (San Francisco, Calif./Boels Dolmans Cycling Team) finished 24th for the USA while Rivera was next over the line for the red, white, and blue in 39th. Also finishing for Team USA were Tayler Wiles (Fairfax, Calif./Velocio-SRAM) in 77th and Lauren Komanski (Winston Salem, N.C./TWENTY16 p/b SHO-AIR) in 86th.

Earlier in the day, six American lined up for the junior men's 129-kilometer road race, and it was Adrien Costa (Bend, Ore./California Giant Berry Farms-Specialized) to post the strongest result for Team USA.

After leading the charge to catch a late race breakaway, Costa rode with the front group for the last lap-and-a-half before finishing 18th.

The race was won by Felix Gall (AUT) while Clement Betouigt-Suire (FRA) and Rasmus Pedersen (DEN) were second and third. Chris Blevins (Durango, Colo./Team Specialized Racing) was 62nd for the USA, Jack Maddux (Fresno, Calif./Hot Tubes Development Cycling Team) was 88th, Ethan Reynolds (Boise, Idaho/Hot Tubes Development Cycling Team) was 110th, Jonny Brown (Covington, Tenn./Hot Tubes Development Cycling Team) was 111th.
