Frisco, Texas. (September 21, 2012) – Day two at the USA Cycling Collegiate Track National Championships saw Marian University grow its lead in the Division I team omnium standings while the Massachusetts Institute of Technology overtook the lead in Division II.

Two champs were crowned as the finals of the men’s and women’s points races took place during the evening sessions.

Colleen Hayduk (Kutztown, PA/Kutztown University of Pennsylvania) scored 18 points to win the gold medal in the women’s event.

“It was really hard,” she said afterwards. “I honestly thought it was going to end with laps taken, but nobody let anyone get away so that was really interesting. It was pretty hard fought and really fast.”

With 15 points, Mary Costelloe (Emmaus, PA/Kutztown University of Pennsylvania) grabbed the silver medal while Jessica Prinner (South Elgin, IL/Midwestern State University) earned bronze with 12 points.

In the men’s race, Griffin Easter (Durango, CO/Fort Lewis College) beat out silver medalist Colton Barrett (North Saint Paul, MN/Marian University) by only one point, scoring 44 over Barrett’s 43. Taking the podium’s third step was Zack Allison (Fort Collins, CO/Colorado State University) with 41 points.

Griffin had to fight hard in the close race, with no teammates to offer support.

“It started out good. I think I got the first five points,” he explained. “From there on out, it was going as hard as I could. I didn’t have a teammate so had to make sure I was up in the running every time.”

At the end of day two, Marian has a dominant lead over the University of Colorado in the Division I team standings, with 564 points compared to CU’s 409. In Division II, MIT leads Colorado Mesa University 443 to 405.
